The majority of our community shares one common dream: to travel the world. A wonderful fact is that this dream is totally within reach for them. Yet there is usually one thing holding them back, and that thing is finances.
Let’s face it, for most ordinary people, it’s not possible to quit your job, pack your bag and head off to a distant destination with a one-way ticket. If it were that easy, everyone would do it. But trust me when I say that your financial situation doesn’t have to negatively impact your dreams… In fact, it’s possible to continue to earn money while you travel by working remotely. And it’s easier than you might think. There are so many ways to make money online, you’ll probably find you’re actually spoiled for choice!
During the pandemic, lots of people who wouldn’t usually be able to work remotely were given the option to, proving to employers that working out of the office is more than possible and can actually be beneficial for businesses and individuals alike. Now, in 2022, it’s never been easier to find a remote job that you can do online from anywhere in the world.
And the best part? You don’t need much experience. It’s a common misconception that to be a digital nomad you need crazy tech skills and a huge portfolio of work behind you – but it’s simply not true. And if you’re willing to put yourself out there, it’s perfectly possible to find an online job you’ll be great at – or even start your own business if that’s a desire of yours.
In this blog post I’m going to share 8 jobs that you can do remotely with little to no experience. If traveling the world, or living in a foreign country for a while is a dream of yours, it’s time to stop dreaming and start doing.
But before we dive in, let me remind you of our course The Freedom Lab: the toolkit that allows people to quit their 9-5, take their skillset online and live a life designed by them. We reach you over 20 different ways to make money online, with any of your skills or passions. If that sounds like living the dream, I recommend you sign up! We have thousands of students that are already working on doing what they are truly passionate about.
Virtual Assistant
A virtual assistant is sort of like a personal assistant or executive assistant – except their work is done online, out of the office. Most online businesses, whether it’s clothing brands or online coaches, will have a virtual assistant. And the types of tasks that they do can vary greatly. Usually, it will be general administrative duties, such as data entry, market research, email comms, or calendar management. Sometimes it can be slightly more skilled work such as basic graphic design or copywriting. Because of this, the only skills you really need to start out as a VA are to be adaptable, reliable, and willing to learn on the job!
Social Media Manager
Social media managing involves looking after the social media channels of a business. Most commonly, they’re responsible for managing the Instagram account, but they can also be in charge of Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, and more! Their tasks include coming up with concepts and ideas, planning the content strategy, and creating a content calendar. Again, it’s good to have some beginner skills in design and copywriting, as you may be responsible for creating images and writing captions. But you don’t have to be a professional designer though – you can learn how to design amazing graphics with Canva and it doesn’t take long to teach yourself. It also helps to be up to date with social media trends and viral content.
Copywriter
A copywriter can be someone who writes social media content, but it’s so much more than that too. They write other types of content, such as long-form copy for blogs and newsletters. They can write website copy, e-commerce copy and product descriptions, or even scripts for YouTube videos and courses. Of course, it helps if you have the right skill set for this kind of job – and the more experience you have, the more likely you are to find another job. But I promise you, it’s totally possible to find a writing job if you are able to prove you can write well. If you’re interested in this, I really recommend working on some ‘speculative’ pieces – writing some blogs, for example, that you can put in a portfolio to prove to prospective employers that you are a good writer.
Proofreader
If you are good at writing, you’ll probably also be good at proofreading. This is when someone else has written the content and it needs to be checked for mistakes or typos. You’ll have to have a good knowledge of spelling and grammar rules, but again, this is something you can learn fairly easily if your skills aren’t quite up to scratch yet. You can be tasked to proofread everything from essays, articles, resumes, websites, and more – the list is endless. Sometimes the content will have been translated into another language and you’ll need to make sure it has been translated correctly.
Transcriber
Another remote job you can do that involves working with words is to be a transcriber, though this one is more admin based. If you’re fast at typing, you’ll be great at this! A transcriber is responsible for turning audio content (whether it be podcasts, YouTube videos, or course content) into written documents. You’ll usually be required to type word-for-word, so it’s great if you are good at understanding different accents.
Teacher
One of the most common online jobs for travelers is online teaching. Most commonly this refers to teaching English online as a second language. Although sometimes you’re required to have a certification such as TEFL, or be a native English speaker, it’s not always the case. There are plenty of opportunities out there for other people to become English teachers too, or if you’re a native speaker of another language, you could teach that to English-speaking people. Languages aren’t the only thing you can teach online though – you can monetize just about any skill you have! For example, you could teach guitar or yoga.
Customer Support Representative
Most businesses, whether big or small, have to provide customer service of some kind. And you don’t need any specific qualification to step into this role. All you need is to be approachable, understanding, and able to communicate effectively. As most customer service is delivered over the phone, via email, or through a live chat – it’s a perfect remote job. If you’re a people person, this one’s for you! The only downside to this one is that often you’ll be expected to be online during a specific time of day, which can be tricky with timezones. That said, it’s possible you’ll find a customer support role that can work your schedule around.
Community Manager
A community manager is similar to a customer support representative in that it requires the same skills. It’s just more suited to modern, online business. Sometimes called a customer happiness manager, a community manager makes sure an online community is happy, connected, and cared for. There are people coaching all kinds of things online now, from business, to astrology, to nutrition… each one of these people will have an online audience (whether that’s their social media following, or paying customers inside their memberships). They need to provide them with excellent customer support, but often don’t have time to respond to everyone themselves. That’s where a community manager comes in. They can be responsible for replying to messages, dealing with concerns, questions, and complaints, and generally just keeping everyone engaged and excited to be in their community.
Other ways to make money while traveling:
Of course, there are other ways to make money online, and you don’t necessarily have to work for someone else. You can start your own business – just like we all did! Now, we have built multiple brands, but in the early days we started out being able to travel thanks to collaborating with hotels, or selling digital assets such as presets. We made it work by working it around ‘typical’ jobs. Miguel and I started traveling when we could find free time from our jobs and studies. Marie and Jake worked stints on farms picking fruit to fund their travels. Other people work in hostels, bars or restaurants. But if you have a desire to become a travel influencer, you don’t even have to do it the hard way like we did. You could get a remote job and start building your brand at the same time! And that’s why we built Club Life Design – to teach you how to get where we have even faster than we did.
A final note:
It’s also worth saying that many jobs you may not instantly think of can be remote. Of course, there are certain things (such as a factory worker, or a doctor, for example) that cannot be done outside of the workplace. But most office-based jobs can be done from anywhere with an internet connection. And besides, even though these particular jobs might not be possible to be done outside the office, there are digital products that you can offer within any niche. You’re a doctor? Write an ebook on how to live a healthy lifestyle. You’re a hairdresser? Create an online course on how to style your hair!
I really hope this post proves to you that the digital nomad dream is totally within reach, and earning an online income is easier than you think!
Happy job hunting.
